Banana and Bacon Farofa

July 6, 2019 by Daniela Nath

Farofa is a delicious crunchy side dish that is very popular in Brazil. It goes really well as a side dish with Feijoada and is also served with churrasco, fish, sausage etc. It may take you a couple tries to get hooked on it, but once you learn how to appreciate it you will want to add this on top of every meal. The Brazilian “farofa” adds a nice texture and a load of flavor to your meal.

There are many variations to this dish, the most common one is plain butter, bacon and eggs. On this variation we added some bananas for sweetness. You can also try with shredded carrots, raisins and collard greens.

Notes

There are a number variations of this dish. A very common one is to swap the banana for eggs.
Cassava flour (AKA Manioc flour) is not the same as Tapioca starch. This ingredient is not as easy to find, but you can find in Brazilian stores and also on Amazon.
